Some WWE heels receive massive boos, while others end up becoming fan favorites despite being presented as villains. What makes a heel character work? Is it strong mic skills, arrogance, cheating, manipulation, physical aggression, or simply having a personality fans love to hate?

A good heel needs to make fans react, whether that means loud boos or people wanting to see them get beaten. Arrogance and cheating can work, but strong mic skills and a memorable personality usually make the biggest difference. Some heels become fan favorites when they’re simply too entertaining to dislike.

I think a truly effective WWE heel needs to make fans genuinely want to see them lose. Good promos, strong character work, and the ability to get under the crowd’s skin all are important. I also think a heel needs to give fans a reason to care about the rivalry rather than simply acting mean. The best heels can make even a simple match feel personal and get a strong reaction without relying only on cheap insults.
