Some basketball rivalries remain intense across generations, while others disappear after a few seasons. What keeps a rivalry alive? Is it historic playoff meetings, geographic proximity, star players, controversial moments, fan culture, or repeated competition for championships?

I think a rivalry stays alive when the teams keep giving fans meaningful reasons to care. Close playoff battles, memorable players, controversial moments, and strong fan traditions can all add fuel. Geography helps too, but repeated competitive games are probably what keep the rivalry from becoming just part of history.
